muneca_brava had a lovely little post about taking this tropes quiz& then writing about what your top 5 were, so I thought I'd give it a try! I don't really actively think about what kind of tropes I like, but once I got the ~results, it all made sense lol.
1. They Break Up (But Then They Get Back Together)
I am certainly a fan of complicated and unconventional~ relationships; I prefer exploring all the weird messy emotional stuff that goes into a relationship. Sometimes that means two people cannot actually be together! It depends on the piece of media and ship in question, because it's not always a requirement for me that a couple gets back together. I like things that are unsatisfying and ambiguous (to a point). The idea of a couple getting together and then being together forever and doing the whole marriage, etc. spiel is not comforting to me.
2. Fake Dating / Fake Marriage Accidentally Turns Into Feelings
I mean, it is a classic for a reason, no?
3. Seemingly Unrequited Pining
God do I love pining. I just love characters absolutely suffering for romance but keeping it locked up tight. I'm not going to delve into why; I owe no one that psychological minefield.
4. Actually Unrequited Pining
Loling at myself and my own predictability! I have tried to explore this in fic sometimes, though it seems very unsatisfying to readers. But sometimes the pining is enough, you know? Sometimes that can be more emotionally satisfying than the getting. Idk! It's a feeling I like to sit in from time to time, in fiction.
5. Hurt/Comfort
I didn't used to think I had any particular affinity for hurt/comfort, but the more time passes, the more I realize I was being dumb. Especially when it comes to my recent output, so much of my writing focuses on making characters bleed and/or cry, then finding someone to clean them up. But I will admit sometimes I neglect comfort.
