Lolz, look how 90% of it is season one. I had so many feelings when I was making these! Idk what it is, I was like overwhelmed by a rush of Blair feelings. Remember when it was 2008 and she was everything!! I wish her style had evolved into a Betty-Draper-meets-Dita-von-Teese kind of place (with hints of French New Wave thrown in, of course). Instead of the Mrs. Bass, bad makeup, eighty year old place it ended up. But lol obvs fashion is the least of my Blair concerns. Side note, how cute is in that for her ~bad girl~ s2 outfit, she still wore pearls and a cardigan. Really making your point there, B.

I can't believe I neglected Fran on my 'top tv characters' bit in the last post, because SHE IS EVERYTHING TO ME. Ugh this is not even the tip of the iceberg of her outfits!!! Finding caps was super hard. Her gigantic hair whose epic height I could never reach even with a million weaves! Her thigh-high boots and black stockings and mini skirts! In the later years when she started wearing both flippy hair wigs and bobbed wigs! All her sexy sparkling gowns! Would actually hand over my first born child to Satan for this wardrobe, no lie.
BLAIR WALDORF
![]()
I mean, quelle surprise. Obviously. Even with the shit, she was seriously influential on seventeen year old me.
CHARLOTTE CHARLES
![]()
How is it she can wear a scarf and sunnies and little gloves without looking like a grandma, but when I try it I look like a grandma? The red dress + hat is probably the crowning glory, but Chuck always looked so perfect.
BETTY DRAPER
![]()
Betty's casual wear!! Her plaid ankle skimmers!! Her colorful sun dresses! Her housewife chic! Also when she gets all glammed up and looks like 50s Barbie!
JOAN HOLLOWAY
![]()
HOW TO EVEN NARROW IT DOWN. I had to cut caps from like fifty down to what you see here, it was crazy. Joan's little casual striped shirt + black pants in the bottom right is probably my favorite look of hers, because I have serious feelings about stripes, but like everyone on Mad Men, Joan just always looks incredible. I love that is she always in Technicolor, somehow.
I neglected so many things tho! This makes it seem like I only like tv fashion that is all cutesy and 1960sy. Which is far from the truth. I just feel like tv character wardrobes are usually not that exciting unless it's a specific time period, most of the time? I would have put like a million girls from Skins on this if I was still in the thick of it - because the costuming on that show was really amazing a lot of the time, I think, and did such a perfect job of capturing the character. In particular, I was always fond of Effy, Katie, and Mini's clothes. Also I left out some awesome 90s stuff! Like Princess of Everything Rayanne Graff! And also Donna Martin, who, I kid you not, was rocking some sick shit on 90210.

CHER. IN THIS MOVIE. CHER IN THIS MOVIE (also, hi, Wino!!!). LOOK AT THAT DRESS. SHE ALSO HAD A PINK ONE. LOOK AT HER AMAZING WIG. LOOK AT HER CUT-CREASE EYE MAKEUP. Her other outfits also tho!!!!
THE GIRL, THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH
![]()
I know the other dress is the famous one and all the outfits in this are incredible, but this will always be my favorite. It's the first time you see her so it creates such an IMPACT. And in general I am really drawn to pinup styles, those figure-flattering dresses and pointless little strappy shoes.
FANNY BRICE, FUNNY GIRL

lol I feel like I have picspamed this scene, just for this five things series alone, about a bajillion times. But the flawlessness?? SO MUCH LEOPARD. One of my favorite things about 1960s period pieces is that it was just the 60s, except not. Like, she still has a huge bouffant and a 1960s hat meant to accommodate it and clearly 60s eye makeup, even though it is allegedly the 1920s. Also! Look at her talons! Did you know Barbra's mom wanted her to be a typist and as a big fuck you, Barbra grew gigantic talons so she would never be able to be a typist. She's amazing.
HEGWIG ROBINSON, HEGWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
![]()
The fishnets with lines!! The converse!! It is hard to tell in the caps, but the skirt is HALF LEATHER AND HALF VINYL WITH A BEADED FRINGE. I MEAN!!
HERMIA, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
![]()
I feel like these caps are not good enough, you can barely see her adorable bloomers. I love Victorian (is this Victorian? I cannot tell?) undergarments, and how involved and covered in frippery they could be. I love all her girly pink ribbon accents. And it's so cute when she wanders around in her corset and Lysander's coat, with her cloud of Shakespearean maiden hair and her little boots.
WANDA WOODWARD, CRY-BABY
![]()
I would take a human life if it meant I could have her hair? Also peep the Marilyn-style pin-up girl shoes! My favorite kind of shoes. My penchant for a specific kind of fashion is super obvious in this post, lol.
BRIAN SLADE, VELVET GOLDMINE
![]()
Okay, in every single movie on this list, ALL the costumes are so glorious. I'm trying hard not to say that with every single graphic. My queen Sandy Powell did the costumes for this movie, and they are so perfectly Bowie 70s, but this gorgeous pop art Marie Antoinette dandy confection is undoubtedly the best.
Ugh, remember when Jonathan Rhys Meyers was so young and feminine and I still liked him? He looks like a child. He had to be like 19 when he made this movie. He was so pretty.
MARGOT TENENBAUM, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS
![]()
I love that Wes characters have, like, cartoon wardrobes where everything they wear is always the same. Look at that amazing shot of her closet! So many loafers and striped Polo dresses! Bonus baby goth Margot.
VIOLET, BOUND

Should I just do a Bound picspam? It was so hard to narrow down caps, as you can probably tell. I love this movie so much. I love that the femme fatale, Violet, is basically the hero of the movie. She has got to be one of my favorite characters ever, both from a fashion perspective and an awesome perspective. The 90s really had such a 50s influence, huh? Violet basically dresses in very 50s styles rendered in totally 90s color schemes. The best outfit (though, again, they are all great) is that deep red dress she wears for the majority of the movie. And her incredible nails. She just looks so feminine and sexy and put-together the whole time. Plus I love her makeup – it was like a purple-gray smoky eye and brick red lipstick. So good.
MARLA SINGER/TYLER DURDEN, FIGHT CLUB
![]()
Oh man, Marla. That fuzzy black coat from the end of the movie is something I've been looking for for YEARS. I love how legitimately cheap most of her stuff looks? It's so clearly all thrifted and thrown together. And her maaaakup, so good and so corpsey! She just looks like a beautiful wreck the entire time.
And, okay. I didn't want to put Fight Club on this list twice, because as I said - all these movies have great costuming. A lot of them have costuming I like a lot more than Fight Club's. BUT.
![]()
TYLER DURDEN'S NINETIES CLUB QUEER WARDROBE. Who made the decision to dress him like this???? His fishnet tops! His fur coats! THE SHIRT THAT SAYS HUSTLER ACROSS THE CHEST. HIS NANNY FINE COFFEE CUP ROBE. WHO MADE THESE CHOICES SO I CAN PERSONALLY SHAKE THEIR HAND.
Aaaand we're done! Maybe I will do another one of these sometimes, and accept way less prompts.
